About Me

My lactation career began with the birth of my fourth child. He was critically ill and transferred to two different NICUs to save his life. Despite having breastfed three children before him without any trouble, I was not prepared for what breastfeeding looked like as a NICU mother. The support and encouragement that I received from those taking care of my baby led me to pursue a career in lactation so that I could provide that same support to other mothers facing similar challenges.

I began my career in mother-to-mother support as a La Leche League leader. I founded a group in my area, trained three additional leaders, and reached hundreds of mothers. I worked in a busy OB unit for nearly a decade. Here, I saw dozens of new moms each day, lead the breastfeeding support group, and started an outpatient breastfeeding clinic so that moms could get support after discharge from the hospital.

While I love working one-on-one with new families, I have a special passion for mentoring and teaching students and new lactation consultants. I became a Pathway 2 instructor in 2022 and since then have taught nearly 100 student lactation consultants. I have built relationships with all of my students that extend beyond the Pathway 2 program because I want to continue to watch them grow and flourish as Lactation Consultants.

Furthering the field of lactation by conducting research and teaching evidence-based lactation is my ongoing work. I am actively participating in breastfeeding research and creating new ways to help students and new lactation consultants learn to understand and use research in their practice.
